I am a mom of a college freshman. When my daughter moved into her dorm earlier this year, it felt like we bought her everything she could possibly need—but we were wrong. There’s always something coming up. I'm realizing that a lot of the things that’ll make her life easier at school would also make great gifts this holiday season.
If you need to buy gifts for college students, too, you’re in the right place. I’ve included a mix of functional decor that will come in handy around their dorm, trendy stuff that won’t blow your budget, tech gadgets they don't already own, and practical kitchen supplies. (For example, they might already have a Keurig coffee maker, but I bet they’d be thrilled to get a giant case of K-cups that’ll last them a few months!) Of course, because our hard-working college students deserve it, I also made sure there were a few pampering gifts on the list to remind them to take a beat for self-care.
When is the shipping deadline for Christmas?
Quick heads-up: For most retailers, December 18 is the last day to place orders if you want gifts to arrive by December 25, per USPS-recommended holiday shipping deadlines. Though if you're in a pinch—and if you’re willing to pay extra—you can still count on Priority Mail to come to the rescue on December 20 and 21.
As for UPS and FedEx, they usually shut down Ground shipping somewhere between December 17–19. But if you’re cutting it close, expedited shipping can still get the job done through December 23–24. Amazon tends to be a little more forgiving, where some items can ship as late as December 22 or 23 if you have a Prime account. Just make sure you see if it has the “Arrives by Christmas” label. Consider this your final call to check those gifts off your list!
